Dentzel Carousel, Meridian
The Dentzel Carousel was built for the St. Louis Exposition (1904) by Gustav Dentzel, a cabinet maker. It was purchased by the city of Meridian in 1909 for $200. It is a beautiful, classic building that is well worth your time to visit! The carousel is in a charming location, and if you’re looking for something to do while enjoying the beautiful Meridian East / Toomsuba KOA, the Dentzel Carousel should top that list.
Ship Island
Ship Island is an ideal destination for history buffs, nature lovers and beach goers. Ship Island boasts the “finest beaches on the Mississippi Coast.” The Island is protected by the National Parks Service, and has a beach set aside for swimming. The island’s safe harbor attracted French colonizing ships. The British used the island as a base during the War of 1812, and the Union Forces used the island during the Civil War. Now, you can enjoy the scenic and historic beauty of the island as you take the third of a mile walk to the gulf side of the island and enjoy the beach. Located near the Bay St. Louis/Gulfport KOA.
